Old Folks’ Club welcomes new members
THE NEW Ross Old Folks’ Club is encouraging new members to join.
The club meets every week in the Pastoral Centre, Robert Street.
The club is open to all elderly members of the community in New Ross.
Participants get to enjoy weekly chats over a cup of tea and light refreshments.
The club also provides occasional day trips and outings for members.

Beginners’ line dancing classes
TEENAGE LINE dancing classes will begin in Neville Street, New Ross, on Monday, June 29.
The classes will continue thereafter every Monday at 7.30 p.m.
Beginner’s line dancing also takes place in Albatros Hall every Tuesday night at 7.30 p.m.
The hall plays host to classes for all levels on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. For more information contact 051422485 or 087-7999166
Drop-in service at New Ross CDP
NEW ROSS Community Development Project is continuing its weekly drop-in service for people in the town.
The service is available three days per week and offers people a space to chat, socialize, access the internet or relax while playing pool.
All services at the CDP are free-of charge.
The opening times for people to avail of the service are: Wednesdays [7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.]; Thursdays [1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.] and Fridays [10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.].
Set dancing in New Ross
SET DANCING classes are currently being held in the Augustinian Hall, New Ross.
The classes take place every Monday night at 7.30 p.m.
Beginners are welcome to attend, though all levels will be catered for. For more information contact 051422485.
Special Olympics club
THE NEW Ross Special Olympics Club meets up every Saturday during the school year.
The meetings take place in the sports hall of St. Mary’s Secondary School.
The sessions begin with a gentle training and warm-up routine which is usually followed by football skills.
Basketball skills and Bocce also take place and everything takes place under the watchful eye of coaches who themselves are instructed by Special Olympics Ireland.
Each session ends with refreshments in the canteen.
The initiative is a great way to make new friends and there is a special bond between all of the participants.
Anyone interested in getting involved with the club can go along any Saturday between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Old photographs wanted for historical book
PEOPLE THROUGHOUT New Ross are being asked to submit old photographs for a book being compiled on the town’s folklore.
The project is being undertaken by local school-teacher, Sean Crowley.
Mr. Sean Crowley, a staff member in Horeswood National School, is looking for photos from the early 1900s [specifically between 1900 and 1950].
All photos submitted will be scanned and then returned to their owners. Among the particular themes Sean is seeking are various old world trades which are now in decline.
He is also looking for photos of the old mills in the Maudlins; Commemorations; Parades; J.K.L. Commemorations; Fair Day photos; depictions of the Quay and the old trade sailing ships; Breweries and old shops.
Sean is also looking for information on Ms. Mary B. Dunphy who was the Principal in St. Leonard’s National School between 1901 and 1938. Ms. Dunphy was originally from the Irishtown.
Photos of De Valera’s visit to New Ross in 1932 are also welcome as are any photos of New Ross regattas. Anyone with photos they would like to submit for inclusion can contact Sean directly at: 10 Ard Alainn, New Ross.

Augustinian Pilgrimage
THIS YEAR’S Augustinian Pilgrimage to the Holy Land will take place between October 25 and November 3.

THE EUCHARISTIC Ministers in St. Augustine’s Church, New Ross, for the month of June are: 7.30 p.m. – Pat Ryan and Therese Burke; 9.30 a.m. – Moira Murphy; 10.30 a.m. – Alice Kirwan and Margaret Connolly; 11.30 a.m. – Ann Walsh and Marie Browne.
Support group holds monthly meetings
THE NEW Ross based bereavement support group, Compassionate Friends, holds regular meetings in the New Ross area on the first Wednesday of each month.
The group is aimed at parents trying to cope with the loss of a child.
The organization was established with that specific aim in mind and offers group support, one-to-one support, counseling, housework help and fuel and food vouchers.
The meetings are held in the Brandon House Hotel and take place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

United Striders Athletics Club
TRAINING IS currently taking place on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings from 7 p.m. and 11 a.m. respectively.
The sessions are aimed at athletes from U -8 up to U 18.

Pioneers to travel to Knock
THE SOUTH Ossory P.T.A.A group will travel to Knock Shrine, Co. Mayo on July 18.
The group will stay overnight and will be joined by other groups from the south of the Diocese.
Our Lady of Lourdes reunion
THE CLASS of ’74 from Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School is to hold a reunion later this month.
On Sunday, June 28, the former classmates will gather together in the Brandon House Hotel to renew old friendships and recall fond memories.
The 35-year reunion will take place at lunchtime and any past pupils of the school who entered their class in September 1969 or joined in later years prior to the Leaving Cert of 1974 are invited to attend the event.

New Ross has got talent
A NEW Ross Has Got Talent competition will be held in the Ship Pub over the coming weeks.
The competition will be staged on Friday nights and all proceeds will go towards New Ross Search & Rescue. Sponsorship cards are available from the Ship Pub.
Fitness in the playbarn
FITNESS CLASSES for children are currently being held in New Ross Adventure Playbarn.
The classes take place every Wednesday from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. and on Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 12 noon.
The cost is €5 per child and the classes are supervised by a qualified instructor.
Summer camp in Ramsgrange
THE SWWCDP will be running a two-week Summer Camp in July.
The initiative will take place during the weeks beginning July 6 and July 13, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
One camp will be run specifically for children aged 6-10 years.
Activities will include art and crafts, a disco, sports day events, cookery and trips to Kennedy Park. The cost of participating will be €65 per child.

Mass for the Sick
MASS FOR the Sick will be offered in the Augustinian Church, New Ross this evening, Wednesday, June 24, at 7.30 p.m.
The Celebrant will be Fr. Anthony Connell, P.P., Rathnure. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
