Bypass news welcomed
COUNTY COUNCILLORS have unanimously welcomed the decision of the High Court to disallow an objector to the New Ross Bypass to appeal a decision against him.
New chairman of the Council, Cllr. Jim Moore, said plans for the bypass now look very positive.
Cllr. Larry O’Brien welcomed the decision. “It looks like it is back on track. The sooner it starts the better, as it will create employment. This process has been going on for ten years.”
Concerns were raised that the objector could bring a case to Europe, but County Manager quietened these at Monday’s meeting of the local authority, saying that the High Court decision in Ireland would be taken very much into account in any European Court.
Cllr. Michael Sheahan said the bypass would provide a great boost for the local economy, while Mr. Breen said a private contractor from Ireland or Europe could carry out the €500m works.
He added that contracts will be signed for the project in 2011 and work should start the following year.
Cllr. Paddy Kavanagh praised the bravery of the High Court judge’s decision.
